JAMB Withdraws Earlier Issued 2016 Admissions List

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has withdrawn the admissions list it had earlier sent to tertiary institutions in the country.
The Board made this known in a statement by its Head of Media, Mr. Fabian Benjamin on Sunday.
The statement read,

“This is to ensure that the University Senate perform its statutory responsibility of conducting the selection of candidates and refer it to JAMB for confirmation in line with the admission criteria of merit, catchment and educationally disadvantaged states as directed by the Hon Minister of Education at the policy committee meeting.
“The earlier list was sent to help fast track the process of admission so as to allow other tiers of institutions also conduct their admission.
“Candidates should not panic because this is part of the process of the 2016 admission exercise.
“JAMB regrets any inconvenience this decision would have caused the tertiary institutions.
“The Board regrets any inconvenience it’s proactive step would have caused the tertiary institutions.”

JAMB has in recent times been said to be involved in a series of policy summersault.
JAMB had previously advocated the use of point system for grading candidates for admissions into higher institutions.

JAMB Withdraws Admissions List

The board later retracted the statement posted on its official website claiming it was merely an illustration.
JAMB had also scrapped special centres and discouraged tertiary institutions from conducting Post-UTME exams.
It assured that the 2016 admissions would be conducted purely on the three existing admission pillars: merit, catchment ara and educationally less developed states.

According to JAMB, the withdrawn list was to enable the institutions screen candidates who qualified for admissions.
JAMB further stated that such screening did not require another test in any form, written, oral or electronic.
Each candidate was expected to have a minimum of five credits at SSCE, including English, Mathematics and any other three relevant subjects.
